Ludum Dare 30 – Connected Worlds

My friend Cory Cone and I decided we wanted to do the Ludum Dare challenge this past weekend. (for most people, Ludum Dare is a 48-72 hour ‘game jam’ in which participants are required to create a video game from scratch within the time limit and following the event’s theme). The theme was Connected Worlds, so obviously I immediately wanted to do something involving planets.

I was very fortunate to have a few other friends join the team very last minute, so in addition to me coding and Cory doing 3D modelling/animation we had Thalia Lemon and Carlo Marcelo doing 2D art and Monica Bolles providing some sound design. The collaboration turned out really well and I love the project that we ended up making.

The whole thing evolved as we went, there was never a clear idea of what anything was about. The main thing that I knew was that I didn’t want it to make much sense and I didn’t want it to have an obvious objective. So we ended up with Intergalactic Developer Company. I don’t want to say too much about the actual game, but here’s a video of a near finished version.

I’ll be putting the game up on the mobile app stores in the near future, but in the mean time you can play the game on your computer following the link below.
